Man arrested for alleged theft of vehicle stolen earlier in day
A local man was arrested on felony and misdemeanor charges Thursday after he was spotted driving an allegedly stolen car shortly after it was discovered missing and he reportedly had drugs in his possession.
Gary Tyrell Dobson, 30, who lists a School Street address, was taken into custody shortly before noon and charged with a felony count of theft by receiving over $1,000, punishable by up to six years in prison, and a misdemeanor count of possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, punishable by up to one year in jail.
Dobson, who lists no prior felony history, was released the next day on a $3,500 bond and is set to appear June 13 in Garland County District Court.
According to the probable cause affidavit, around 11:45 a.m. Thursday, Hot Springs police Officer Austin Morphew was patrolling when he saw a silver 2006 Saturn Ion traveling west on Greenwood Street which then turned onto Third Street.
A computer check of the license plate showed it had been reported stolen earlier that morning by a woman in the 100 block of Franklin Street. Morphew made a traffic stop on the car in the 900 block of Third Street.
He made contact with the driver, identified as Dobson, and told him he was being detained. Dobson allegedly "began to tense up" and initially refused to place his hands behind his back.
After a brief moment, Dobson was taken into custody and during an inventory of the car, Morphew allegedly found a marijuana cigarette, 1.4 grams, in the cup in the car's cup holder.
